Period II

I consider that my last class in this second period was challenging because I had to teach on Friday, the last day of the week in which the students had done exams. When I started the class, I could observe that the majority of students were tired and without energy, so the environment in the classroom was difficult to manage. I started the class with an activity in which students had to stand up and discuss some questions; fortunately the majority of students helped me with the activity.

After the activity, I asked students to work in a reading about "Comics: trash or treasure? “ We listened and read the paragraphs, and then I asked students some questions about it. Students worked in two activities about the reading on their books; also they had to complete a table and answer some questions based on the reading.

As final activity, students had to work in a table about Reading Materials. First, I asked students about their reading materials, and I also showed them some pictures about it. Students worked in an activity about reading materials, in which they had to complete a table. They had to write information about the different reading materials, age, reasons, etc. At the end of the class, I asked students about their information, and they participated.

Something that I did not like in my class: I did not like the attitude of some students because it was difficult to work with them. I could observe the tiredness in students´ faces, so it was a challenge to work with them during the complete class.

Something that I liked in my class: I really liked the moment in which students gave their opinions about their reading materials. It was interesting to discuss about their reading materials because everybody has different ideas about this topic.

It was hard to finish my classes in this second period, but I learned many important things. I hope to continue learning and enjoying this experience.

My second class in this second period was different than my first class. I started the class asking to students write their names in some pieces of paper; I think that it is an excellent way to know students´ names. Then, I made a warm-up called ¨First Letter, Last Letter¨; students had the opportunity to learn vocabulary with this game, and also they enjoyed to work together.

I had also to work in some activities on the book. First, I taught students the importance of make stress on the verb in short answers with so. Students had to listen and read some examples in order to understand better the importance of stress. Moreover, I asked students to listen a conversation in which a person recommends a book to another person, so students learned about the importance of reading and recommending a book.

After the conversation, I asked students to work in an activity; I gave students a copy in which they had to name their favorite book, write about it, and give the reason why they recommend the book. I gave some students the opportunity to share their information with the class. Finally, I taught students grammar about ¨Noun Clauses: Embedded Questions¨. I tried to explain students the most important information about this topic. Unfortunately, the time was that enough, and I had to give students some practices but like homework.

Something that I did not like in my class: I did not like the attitude and behavior of some students. Unfortunately, some students do not like to participate or work in class; they just like to talk during the class. So it is difficult to deal with this kind of problems.

Something that I liked in my class: I consider that students´ participation is really important in a class. So, I really liked the participation of some students during the class; fortunately, they are very intelligent, friendly, and they love to participate. I think that they are a nice group.

I know that I made many mistakes in my second class, but I had the opportunity to learn something new. It was a nice experience.

In this second period, my first class was very important because I had the opportunity to teach to an interesting group in the program ¨English Access¨.

I felt very nervous in the first minutes of the class because the students did not know me, but fortunately students were very respectable and friendly with me during the complete class. I started the class with the famous warm-up ¨Hot Potato¨; it was an interesting activity because I made students to answer interesting questions; for example, if you could have a superpower which would you like to have?

Then, I explained students the topic ¨The Passive Causative¨; it was a little bite difficult to explain this grammar to students because I did not have enough time to teach the most important information. I tried to explain students the essential grammar, and the majority of them could understand the topic. Unfortunately, some students were talking the majority of the time during the class, but I tried to control the group. I remembered that I had made three activities to help students understand better the topic, but I did not have the enough time to make the three activities. I had to take more time to explain the topic to students because it was difficult for them.

After explaining grammar, I gave students some practices about the topic. Luckily, many students understood the topic, so they worked in the activities. Students worked in some sentences about passive causative, and they also asked me different questions about this important topic. Thanks God, I could finish my class with success.

At the end of the class, the teacher gave me an important and interesting feedback; I learned many things. So, I will try to do it better the next time.
